Marcello Costa, one of the founders of Friends of Science In Medicine, died in April 2024. At the time of his death, he was working on an extended essay aimed at the general reader entitled One Physics for World and Mind: A framework for understanding the physical nature of the mind.
Apart from his internationally famed career as a neuroscientist and teacher, Marcello was passionate about bringing science to the public, primarily as an antidote to superstition, quackery, and misinformation. Underlying all this was his deep belief in the unity of knowledge across the arts, humanities and sciences. Further, he argued that such knowledge was a critical element in actions to resist social repression in all its guises.
Marcello’s essay is now available for anyone to read on a website created especially for this purpose by Ian Gibbins, who worked closely with Marcello to bring the work into a web-friendly form. It covers a wide range of topics but ultimately explains the reasons for Marcello’s outlook on life and how such an approach could benefit everyone.
